Brighton Cory Anderson

Well here we are. A family of four now! We are so excited for the journey ahead. It has been so much fun to have Brighton here. We can't believe how much he has changed in just a few short days.
On Thursday February 25th around 8:00 pm I started contracting pretty bad. I told myself that we weren't going to go to the hospital until I absolutely couldn't stand the contractions anymore. By 8:30 I was in tears telling Ben to call the hospital and let them know of our situation in case we got up there and they sent me home. I wanted to be sure that this was the real deal so that I wouldn't be disappointed if they sent me home. Ben told the nurse the situation and she said to head to the hospital. The drive to Ogden Regional seemed so long. The usual twenty minutes seemed to take an hour. When we got to the hospital they checked us in and took us into a room to get me and the baby checked. The nurse put the external monitor on the baby and checked my progress. I was dialated to a five! I couldn't believe that this was the real deal. The nurse asked us if our doctor ever mentioned that our baby might have an irregular heartbeat. We of course told her no, and she left the room to call Dr. Swift. When she came back in she had told us that Doctor Swift told her that all of our appointments have been normal, and that I could get an epidural whenever I wanted it, and that if the epidural slowed down my progress I could get some pitocin. So that is what I opted for. They put me into a delivery room and continued to check the baby's heartbeat and my progress. By 3:30 am the nurse came in and told us that she was worried about the baby and his heartbeat, and that Doctor Swift was on his way in. When Doctor Swift came in he was baffled as to why the babies hearbeat was so irregular. Every appointment that we had ever been too, the babies heart was perfectly normal. They decided to break my water, and put an internal monitor on the babies head. Within a half hour Dr. Swift had decided that he did not like what he was seeing and that the baby was not going to be able to handle labor, and that we needed to get the baby out as soon as possible. By 4:00 am they had decided that a C-section was best. When the doctor had said that I was going to need to have the baby by C-section I bawled. My emotions were in full swing by then. I was wheeled into delivery around 4:15 am, drugged up even more so I didn't feel anything while being cut open, and strapped to a table. Wow! Reading this it sounds terrible but it really wasn't. I didn't feel much pain wise and the anaesthesiologists was absolutely amazing. He kept reassuring me that I was doing great, making sure I wasn't in too much pain, and even brought me a very warm blanket because I was shaking uncontrollably. Ben was a champ during the surgery. He even wanted to watch the whole thing. He said he did fine until they cut my incision. Obviously because it smelt like burning skin. While being cut open I heard Doctor Swift tell me that the baby had a cute ear. My emotions were all over the place, our baby was almost here, I could not believe it. Ben reassured me that the baby was almost there, and that I was doing great. Before I knew it I heard the baby cry. I was crying, Ben was crying and telling me how beautiful our son was. Ben went back with the baby, and watched him get cleaned up and finally brought the baby out so I could see him. He looked just like Ben. He was named Brighton right then. He was absolutely perfect. He was perfectly healthy with no heart problems, which I was so grateful that he didn't have to go to the NICU. I was stitched up and wheeled into a recovery room. It was such an incredible experience. Granted, a C-section is not what I wanted, but I am grateful for nurses and doctors that safely delivered our precious little boy. Life is great. We can't believe he is finally here, we love him to death.
